4 Mass. communities named All-American City finalists
If you see anyone from Chelsea, Dedham, Fitchburg or Somerville today, be sure to give them an attaboy. On Monday, those four Massachusetts communities were among 25 named 2014 All-American City finalists.
According to National Civic League announcement, this year’s award “will spotlight programs that address issues such as obesity, walkable cities, biking, fitness, healthy eating and disease prevention.’’
The yearly award is given to communities to recognize civic accomplishments, according to the league’s website. In Massachusetts, 19 communities have earned the recognition since the award’s inception in 1949.
Somerville is a two-time All-American City, having won the recognition in 1972 and 2009. Fitchburg also won twice before, in 1970 and 1994. Chelsea won the award in 1998.
The 2014 winners will be announced on June 15.
