Early morning photoshoot becomes a Boston Marathon reunion

They gathered in the early morning hours at the Boston Marathon finish line on Boylston Street for a photo session unlike any other. Just 15 days before this year’s race, a photoshoot organized by The Boston Globe brought together survivors from the 2013 Marathon bombings, family members of those who were killed or injured, famous faces from the sports and entertainment fields,

as well as first responders and elected officials pressed into duty in the minutes, hours, days, and weeks following last year’s tragedy.

The overhead photographs taken by Globe – with the help of a crane – will be published in the weeks to come.

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who rallied the city following the attacks with a passionate Fenway Park speech, was joined by Boston Mayor Marty Walsh at the shoot.

In fact, both Mayor Walsh, and his predecessor, Tom Menino, were on hand and got in on the “selfie’’ craze with Dr. Natalie Stavas, who last year left the race in Mile 26 to help the wounded

Governor Deval Patrick was also in attendance, speaking to a group that included Celeste Corcoran and her daughter, Sydney, both injured in the bombings. Celeste lost both her legs when one of the pressure cooker bombs exploded.
