Ex-GOP candidate, husband admit to campaign scheme in Conn.

A former Republican congressional candidate and her husband have pleaded guilty to conspiring with former Connecticut governor John G. Rowland to make illegal campaign contributions during the 2011-2012 election cycle. The US attorney’s office says Lisa Wilson-Foley and Brian Foley pleaded guilty Monday in Hartford. Authorities say Wilson-Foley, Foley, and Rowland entered into a conspiracy to make illegal contributions to Wilson-Foley’s campaign to hide Rowland’s role in her race for the state’s Fifth Congressional District seat. Authorities say the scheme involved creating a fictitious contract between Rowland and an attorney who worked for Foley’s nursing home company.
