Mass., R.I. State Police arrest suspects in string of armed robberies
Massachusetts and Rhode Island State Police have arrested two suspects believed responsible for a total of more than 15 armed robberies in the two states.
Monchi Castillo-Cosme, 23, and a 16-year-old male accomplice, both of Springfield, face multiple charges for robberies of gas stations and convenience stores, Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.
Castillo-Cosme was arrested on Jan. 4 in Rhode Island after a car chase. He is being held without bail after his arraignment there. The teenager was arrested at a Springfield, Mass., school on Friday morning. He is being held on $500,000 bail and faces rendition to Rhode Island.
The two alleged robbers so far only face charges in connection with robberies in Rhode Island. Additional charges reflecting robberies in Massachusetts, including in Northampton and Greenfield, are expected, State Police said in a statement.
