Trooper accused in crash is suspended without pay
A state trooper has been suspended without pay indefinitely after he allegedly drove under the influence of drugs and alcohol and crashed his personal car into another trooper’s cruiser early Monday, State Police said. Shawn D’Amato, 42, of Revere, a 19-year veteran of the force, was off duty when he allegedly crashed into the other trooper’s cruiser in the breakdown lane on Route 1 shortly after 12:40 a.m. Monday in Revere. Both troopers and a third man, who the on-duty trooper had pulled over to issue a ticket, were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening. D’Amato was suspended after a duty status hearing Tuesday morning at State Police headquarters in Framingham, State Police said.
