Cambridge man held without bail in slaying of uncle

MEDFORD — A 34-year-old Cambridge ex-convict was ordered held without bail on a murder charge in the beating death of his 73-year-old uncle, whose body was found Monday night in an apartment near Kendall Square.

Harold Antoine Maxwell, who authorities said has 18 prior convictions on his record, is charged with killing Jesse Maxwell. A not-guilty plea was entered on Harold Maxwell’s behalf at his arraignment in Cambridge District Court.

Assistant Middlesex District Attorney Nicole Allain said an autopsy had detected 50 blunt or sharp object strikes on the head and face of Jesse Maxwell, who was found in the bathtub in his apartment.
