Accused bomber’s lawyers seek information on death penalty
Defense lawyers for accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev have called on prosecutors to outline a procedure to determine whether they will seek the death penalty, as the lawyers prepare to meet in their first status conference in the case. Attorney General Eric Holder will ultimately decide whether to seek the death penalty against Tsarnaev, 20, but Tsarnaev’s lawyers will first have an opportunity to argue against it. US Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz of Massachusetts will also have a recommendation and could consider the defense team’s arguments.
