Forum on voter identification laws

MIT professor Charles Stewart III will discuss the rise of voter identification laws in a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Lexington on Oct. 30. The free forum will begin at 7 p.m. in the Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Square. Stewart, the Kenan Sahin Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will talk about laws passed in a number of states since 2010 that restrict access to polls and impose new voter identification requirements. Stewart will also discuss the political context in which the laws have been approved, and why they are unlikely to have much of an influence on the outcome of next month’s presidential election.
