Somerville gears up for two fall festivals

Somerville is gearing up for two annual festivals that signal the coming fall season: Honk!, a politically charged celebration of music and public demonstration; and the Fluff Festival, an ode to the gooey marshmallow creation first whipped up in Somerville. This year the Honk! festival is expected to draw more than 30 brass bands from as far as Boulder, Colo., New Orleans, New Mexico, and Italy. Performances, most of which are outdoors and free, are scheduled from Oct. 4-8. The Fluff Festival, slated for Sept. 29, will take place in Union Square, where in 1917 creator Archibald Query first concocted
Marshmallow Fluff. The festival begins at 3 p.m. and offers (sweet) food and family fun.
