Hurricane Laura slammed the Gulf Coast early Thursday morning, leaving a path of destruction across Louisiana and Texas.

Topping out at 150 mph, Laura eclipses Hurricane Katrina, the category 3 storm that devastated Louisiana in 2005. It’s the most powerful storm to hit the state since the category 5 Hurricane Camille in 1969. Texas experienced widespread flooding and power outages but avoided the worst of Laura’s destruction.
