Lowell police looking to return painting of unidentified lieutenant to his family
Lowell police are trying to solve a mystery about a forgotten photograph of one of their own: a high-ranking officer from the 1920s or ’30s.
Police shared the photo in a Facebook post last week, asking for the public’s help in identifying the officer. It was found in the studio of photographer George Poirier, who died in April.

The photograph features a lieutenant of the Lowell Police Department. Police said the photo was paid for in 1964, but never picked up.
Anyone with information about the officer depicted is asked to contact police so they can return the portrait to the man’s family.
“It’s a mystery,” Lowell Police Capt. Tim Crowley told The Boston Globe. “But somebody deserves to get it. We just don’t want to let it sit there and collect dust.”
