Massachusetts General Hospital ranked No. 2 in the country by U.S. News & World Report
Two Massachusetts hospitals made the cut for the publication’s annual Honor Roll.
Massachusetts is home to the second best hospital in the country, according to the latest rankings from U.S. News and World Report. Massachusetts General Hospital took the No. 2 spot on the Honor Roll for the publication’s 2019-2020 best hospital rankings, which were released on Tuesday. It was a move up on the list for the Boston institution, which held steady in fourth last year. Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic continued to hold the top spot on the Honor Roll, with Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic, and New York-Presbyterian Hospital falling behind MGH in third, fourth, and fifth respectively. Another Boston-based hospital made upward moves in the ranking of the top 20 hospitals in the nation. Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which was named 20th last year, came in at No. 13 this year. For the rankings, U.S. News examined more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide across 16 specialties. They were evaluated based on measures of patient outcomes and experiences, as well as care-related factors such as nurse staffing, according to U.S. News. A number of Massachusetts hospitals were recognized in the specialty lists, including Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, which was named No. 3 in the country for rehabilitation.
