This month, Mass General is giving away T-shirts to people who donate blood at the hospital. The measure is part of the hospital’s summer effort to encourage members of the Boston community to help maintain a safe blood supply level for the health care giant. Alyssa Hill, a spokeswoman for Mass General, said hospital patients rely on the volunteer donors — the MGH Blood Donor Center also supports the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, MassGeneral for Children, Shriners Hospital, and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. The T-shirt printed with the message “Live Love Give Repeat” references the importance of donating blood, she said. “In regards to the critical need for blood we are experiencing, there is currently a shortage of blood products throughout the United States,” she said. “As the largest transfuser of blood in the region, MGH requires large amounts of blood products to maintain a safe and reliable blood supply.”Those who donate blood through August 4 will also be entered for a chance to win tickets to the Patriots preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on August 11.
