Massachusetts is home to some of the most liberal colleges in the nation, and the most liberal of them is Boston University, according to Niche.
While Harvard and MIT usually top college rankings, neither made Niche’s top 20 for the most liberal colleges in the Bay State alone.
Meanwhile, BU is the eighth most liberal college in America, per Niche. BU had an overall A+ grade from the publication, including an A+ in academics and diversity.
Following BU on the Mass. list was three women’s colleges: Mount Holyoke, Smith, and Wellesley, respectively.
Nationally, American University in Washington, D.C., ranked first as the most liberal college with a B+ grade overall.
Across New England, the University of Vermont came in at No. 2 nationally, also with an overall score of a B+.
Niche determined the liberalness of each college by surveying current students and recent graduates about their political stances, weighted at 80%, and the college’s political leanings, weighted at 20%.
