Eight Massachusetts colleges are among the best for long-term career success, according to LinkedIn.

The colleges ranked within the top 50 of the business-focused social media network’s first-ever list of the best colleges for long-term career success.

Of the eight Mass. colleges on the list, three — MIT, Harvard, and Babson — ranked in the top 10.

MIT ranked at number 4 because of its place in the top 5 for entrepreneurship, C-suite experience (CEO, CFO, etc.), internships, and recruiter demand, LinkedIn reported.

Across the city of Cambridge, Harvard University ranked sixth for its place in the top 5 for entrepreneurship and C-suite experience as well.

Babson College, located in Wellesley, came in at No. 7 for its place in the top 5 for network strength, in addition to entrepreneurship and C-suite experience.

At No. 15 on the list, Bentley University in Waltham “stands out” for its top 5 internship and recruiter demand placement.

Of the remaining Bay State colleges on the list, Tufts comes in at 16, Boston College at 22, Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 39, and Boston University at 43.

Across New England, seven other colleges ranked on the list: Dartmouth College (9), Brown University (14), Yale University (19), Fairfield University (28), Bryant University (38), Trinity College-Hartford (42), and Providence College (49).

“The decision to attend college — and where — is one of the most important financial and life choices a student and their family will ever make,” LinkedIn wrote. “A four-year bachelor’s degree is a significant investment of time and money, especially as tuition costs rise and the job market shifts.”

As of June, the unemployment rate for workers aged 22 to 27 is 7.4%, one of the highest rates in the last decade, according to AP. The unemployment rate for recent college graduates in that age range is 4.8%, and for college graduates overall is 2.7%, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

LinkedIn reported that only 20% of job listings on its site do not require a college degree.

“Those who earn the degree can see an enduring impact on their earning potential and overall career trajectory. And where they earn that degree can have an even bigger impact: graduates of top programs often land jobs sooner, build strong professional networks, and advance into leadership faster,” wrote LinkedIn.

The ranking is based on LinkedIn data on alumni career outcomes, internships during college, and graduates starting their own businesses.
