The death of a Worcester Polytechnic Institute student was under investigation on Tuesday after the individual was found dead in an off-campus apartment, according to a school spokesperson.
WPI officials learned of the death over the weekend, the spokesperson said in an email.
The manner of death was still under review Tuesday afternoon. No additional information was available.
Since July, WPI has experienced an alarming number of student deaths, with now seven in total. Five of the deaths were reportedly either confirmed or apparent suicides, and a sixth was due to an epileptic seizure.
“We have experienced tremendous loss this academic year, and we are actively working to help our community,” the spokesperson for WPI wrote. “We are focusing on providing resources to those most directly impacted, and we continue to expand the ways in which we support our students, families, faculty, and staff.”
WPI has launched the “Be Well Together” initiative to provide mental health resources to students and staff.
If you or someone you know is considering suicide, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides free and confidential mental health support at 800-273-8255.
