UVM issues sanctions against 2 fraternity chapters

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The University of Vermont has issued sanctions against two fraternity chapters for violation of hazing and alcohol policies.

It said the Phi Gamma Delta chapter was issued a four-year suspension of recognition and is required to cease all activities. UVM said last September pledges were led in drinking games and drinking. An appeal by the chapter was denied.

Alpha Gamma Rho was found responsible for providing alcohol to underage students at a party last October where tickets were sold. The chapter was put on probation, and was put under membership review to create a five-year organizational strategic plan.

Both chapters had been placed under a period of interim suspension pending the outcome of the review and adjudication process.

Alpha Gamma Rho said it hadn’t seen the UVM press release and could not comment.

A message seeking comment was left for a Phi Gamma Delta representative Thursday.
