Before hundreds of Boston Public School students walked out of their classrooms to protest the proposed budget last month, the district urged them to stay in class and attend a meeting after school hours.

Many didn’t listen. Instead, they marched to City Hall, where some chanted in the hallways while others testified at a hearing on academics, social and emotional learning, and wellness. But both those who attended, as well as those who stayed in class, will have another chance to voice their concerns at a meeting Tuesday, which will take place at 6 p.m. in the School Committee Room of the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building.

Superintendent Tommy Chang, along with senior leaders of the finance department, will host a budget forum so students can learn more about the budget appropriations process, according to a statement released by the district. Interpretation services will also be available.

“This student-focused forum will provide a clear overview of the budget, gather input from students about priorities for budget appropriations, and respond to general concerns,” the statement said.

The meeting comes the night before city council members will have their first vote on the fiscal year 2017 operating budget.
