Boston Public Schools receive $1.5 million arts education grant from The Wallace Foundation
A national education non-profit has given the Boston Public Schools Art Expansion a $1.5 million grant, Mayor Marty Walsh announced on Friday.
The money from the Wallace Foundation, a national foundation to support learning opportunities for children, will support the continuation of the BPS Arts Expansion Initiative—a partnership between EdVestors and the BPS.
“Through the Boston Creates cultural planning process, we are not only enriching the lives of our young people, but we are working towards ensuring a future where art will play a pivotal role in Boston’s cultural landscape,’’ Walsh said.
The initiative develops new approaches to arts curriculum, and provides professional development for teachers, students, and family engagement, according to the statement.
The foundation has previously invested more than $4.8 million in the Arts Expansion since the initiative began in 2009.
