The class of 2019 has never licked a stamp
#throwbackthursday
If you were feeling too youthful when you woke up this morning, Beloit College in Wisconsin has released its annual Mindset List. The list was initially aimed at helping professors relate to their students, but every year it just serves to remind you how old you are.
As with every year of incoming freshmen, the majority of the class are 18 years old, meaning they were likely born sometime in 1997. As such, there’s a lot of things they’ve never known another way, such as:
1. “They have never licked a postage stamp.’’
2. “At least Mom and Dad had their new Nintendo 64 to help them get through long nights sitting up with the baby.’’
3. “If you say ‘around the turn of the century,’ they may well ask you, ‘which one?’’’
4. “The Lion King has always been on Broadway.’’
5. “They have avidly joined Harry Potter, Ron, and Hermione as they built their reading skills through all seven volumes.’’
While these do seem relatively minor in the grand scheme of things, and simply an example of a generational divide, there are some rather important occurences too, like, “Hong Kong has always been under Chinese rule.’’
