Each year, Newsweek ranks public high schools across the country to come up with their list of “America’s Top High Schools.’’
Nine Massachusetts public high schools took spots in the top 200 on the 2015 list, which came out earlier this week. Dover-Sherborn is the top high school in Massachusetts and the 16th best in the nation, according to Newsweek. Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria, Virginia topped the list. In total, Newsweek gives slots to 500 schools throughout the country.
The magazine’s rating system takes into account the percent of students who enroll in college, graduation rate, average SAT or ACT scores, advanced placement courses, student retention, and the counselor-to-student ratio.
