UVM fraternity banned for five years
A University of Vermont fraternity has been banned for five years after it violated the terms of an interim suspension for a drinking incident last November, school officials said. Alpha Epsilon Pi, which does not have an official house, was suspended following allegations of excessive drinking and hazing violations in November that prompted UVM police to investigate. Several members of the fraternity were reportedly taken to Fletcher Allen Health Care because of alcohol consumption. Director of Student Life Pat Brown told the Burlington Free Press that fraternity members refused to cooperate with the police investigation and started to recruit new members in January, in violation of the interim suspension.
