Central Falls school principal dies unexpectedly

The principal of a Central Falls elementary school who worked in the city school system for nearly 30 years has died. The district announced that Maureen Azar, principal of the Ella Risk Elementary School, died unexpectedly early Tuesday. She was 50. A school system official said details of how she died were not immediately available. Azar was a Central Falls native who graduated from the city’s high school in 1981. She received a degree in physical education from Rhode Island College in 1985 and began teaching that year in Central Falls. She became principal of Alan Shawn Feinstein School in 2001 and Ella Risk in 2008.
