URI researcher gets $10m grant for vaccine work
A University of Rhode Island researcher has been awarded $10 million in federal funds to expand his team’s research into diseases such as AIDS, malaria, and dengue fever. The funding will allow URI’s Alan Rothman to expand his lab and recruit more researchers to the university’s Providence campus. The work focuses on vaccine research and the immune response to the deadly diseases. URI president David Dooley said the research could improve the lives of millions of people while furthering efforts to make Providence a center for biomedical research.
