Providence education efforts recognized nationally
Providence is one winner in a national challenge to improve struggling schools. Mayor Angel Taveras announced that the Children and Youth Cabinet was among 31 organizations recognized Monday as winners of the Together for Tomorrow Challenge for the current school year. Together for Tomorrow is a joint initiative of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, the US Education Department, and the Corporation for National and Community Service. The mayor’s Children and Youth Cabinet was recognized for its ‘‘Innovation Zone Initiative’’ to improve attendance, behavior, academic achievement, and access to college at three struggling schools.
