Mass. man who allegedly threatened co-workers arrested with gun, drugs

Dwayne Richardson has a criminal record for violent and drug-related crimes dating back to 1992.

A West Bridgewater man was arrested last week after allegedly brandishing a gun to his co-workers and threatening to kill them, the Suffolk County District Attorney announced Monday.

On Dec. 10, Dwayne Richardson, 41, allegedly brandished the firearm, entered his workplace in Malden, and threatened to kill the staff, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden. Following the incident, Winthrop police received a be-on-the-lookout for Richardson’s white 2018 BMW. Police stopped the vehicle the next day on Revere Street and arrested Richardson.

In a search of his vehicle, Winthrop police found $5,090 in cash, a
634.2-gram brick of cocaine, 29.7 grams of fentanyl, 8.4 grams of oxycodone, 3.6 grams of Adderall, and a Springfield Armory XD5 pistol, according to the DA’s news release.

In a search of Richardson’s person, police also found several bags of crack-
cocaine, fentanyl, and cocaine, the DA said.

On Friday, Richardson was charged with trafficking fentanyl over 36 grams, trafficking cocaine 200 grams or more, two counts of drug possession to distribute class B subsequent offense, drug possession to distribute class C, carrying a firearm without license (4th offense), carrying a loaded firearm without a license, firearm violation with three prior violent/drug related crimes, possession of a firearm felony, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.

Richardson was held without bail and is set to reappear in Boston Municipal Court for a dangerousness hearing on Tuesday.

Previously, Richardson served 10 years and one day in prison for illegal possession of a rifle and two counts of illegal possession of a shotgun before his release in 2024, Hayden said. He also was previously charged in relation to multiple violent and drug-related crimes dating back to 1992.

“Anytime police can take deadly drugs and illegal guns off the street, it’s a win for public safety,” Hayden said. “The reports of this defendant using a gun to threaten co-workers in the earlier incident adds to the danger posed during this entire episode.”
