A Rhode Island man is charged in a Duxbury armed robbery that took place Sunday after police tracked him via the Apple Watch he allegedly stole. A woman who was with him, also from Rhode Island, was arrested as well.
Around 2:30 p.m., Duxbury police received a report of suspicious activity and a disturbance on Arrowhead Road, near the town’s Holly Days trolley tour event.
The male victim told police that he was walking down the street when he was approached by a male brandishing a box cutter who had exited a tan sedan with Rhode Island plates.
The suspect allegedly pressed the box cutter against the victim and said, “Give me everything.” The victim, who was not injured, then gave the suspect his Apple Watch and red jacket, according to police.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene by getting back in the sedan, which was being driven by a female suspect, police say.
The vehicle — which police later learned had been reported stolen out of Rhode Island — and the suspects matched the description of those involved in similar crimes that had occurred earlier that day in Plymouth and Kingston, according to police.
Through the victim’s “Find My” app, police were able to track the suspects’ location to a gas station in Pembroke where both suspects were arrested. Police also said they recovered numerous stolen items from the vehicle, although the details of the items were not released.
Fernando Torres, 37, of Providence, has pleaded not guilty to armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, threat to commit a crime, assault and battery, and armed assault to rob a person over 60, according to court documents.
Victoria Lambert, 29, of Warwick, is charged with accessory after the fact.
Torres remains in custody and is due back in Plymouth District Court for a detention hearing on Thursday, according to court documents.
