Man charged in alleged Framingham sidewalk assault that led to victim’s death

The victim died Monday, two days after the alleged attack.

A man has been charged in an alleged Framingham assault that led to another man’s death on Monday.

Around 4:55 p.m. on Saturday, Framingham police responded to a report of an assault on a Concord Street sidewalk, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Craig West, 39, and another individual had approached the victim, according to surveillance footage obtained by the DA’s office. West then allegedly physically assaulted the victim and fled the scene.

Upon arriving at the scene, police located the male victim, who was responsive but had sustained injuries, officials said.

The victim — 64-year-old Oezel Sari — was transported to Tufts Medical Center where he died two days later, the DA’s office said.

The investigation into the assault remains ongoing by the Office of the Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of Sari’s death.

West is charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and assault and battery on a person over 60. He was set to appear in Framingham District Court on Tuesday.
