A 29-year-old man died after suffering numerous gunshot wounds Tuesday night in a “targeted attack” in Rockland.
Rockland police responded to a report of gunshots near 75 Deering Square around 9:35 p.m., according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
The responding officers located the male victim inside a parked vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, the DA’s office says. The victim, later identified as Darnel Andre, of Rockland, was transported to South Shore Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told police the suspect was a thin male dressed in dark clothing who fled the scene. The Massachusetts State Police airwing and local K-9 and drone units helped Rockland officers search the area, but the suspect is still at large, according to Rockland police.
“This does not appear to be a random act of violence, but a targeted attack on the victim,” the DA’s office said.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting, the identity of the suspect, or possible suspicious vehicles in the area of Deering Square and Winding Way between 8 and 11 p.m. Tuesday is asked to call Rockland police at 781-871-3890.
