Mass. man facing 29 charges after alleged 5-month crime spree

The 30-year-old is due back in court Monday.

A 30-year-old man is facing a slew of charges following a five-month crime spree, according to Webster police.

Gavin Barszcz of Webster is facing at least 29 new charges for numerous incidents between April and September, police said.

On April 17, Barszcz broke into two vehicles, according to police. Officers arrested him and said they found keys and money in his pockets that were reportedly from those vehicles.

Barszcz pleaded guilty to charges of nighttime breaking and entering of a vehicle and two counts of receiving stolen property following that incident. According to court documents, two felony charges for the same incident were dismissed by the Commonwealth.

Barszcz is on probation for one year until June 11, 2026 for charges related to the April 17 incident. More charges followed in connection to incidents in the months that followed. He has a hearing for a probation violation related to those other charges scheduled for Nov. 7, according to court documents.

On June 1, Webster police located a stolen motorcycle with a drilled out engine and cut wires near 3.5 Wall St., they said. Officers soon found Barszcz in an apartment at that address where he admitted to stealing the motorcycle with his mother in hopes of selling it for drug money, police reported.

Barszcz pleaded not guilty to the charges of motor vehicle larceny, vandalizing property, and conspiracy, according to court documents.

Several weeks later, Webster police observed Barszcz with several new motorcycles on various occasions throughout June, July, and August.

Barszcz does not have a valid driver’s license, none of the motorcycles were registered, and one had a fake paper license plate, according to police. When officers attempted to conduct traffic stops, Barszcz allegedly drove off at high speeds.

Additionally, Webster police received a report that Barszcz allegedly pointed a handgun at someone while driving one of the motorcycles.

For the motorcycle-related crimes, Barszcz pleaded not guilty to failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a marked lanes violation, failure to stop/yield, and speeding at a rate greater than what was reasonable or proper, according to court documents.

Barszcz is also accused of assaulting a woman during an argument at the same 3.5 Wall St. apartment on Sept. 9 by slapping her in the face and throwing and smashing glasses on the floor, causing shards to hit the woman, police said.

Barszcz pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a family/household member and was committed to Worcester County House of Correction on Sept. 10, according to court documents.

Webster police also learned that Barszcz was in possession of a large sum of money. Police said an investigation led them to believe that he was one of two masked men involved in an armed home invasion in Dudley.

The men allegedly stole roughly $250,000 from an 85-year-old woman.

Police believe Barszcz profited between $50,000 and $100,000 from the home invasion, which he then used to buy a Mercedes Benz, an Acura MDX, a CBR1000 motorcycle, a Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle, expensive shoes, high-end watches, and new tattoos.

During a search of two apartments on Wall Street, police seized both motorcycles and one of the vehicles. The other vehicle had been previously impounded by another police department following a traffic stop, Webster police said.

Barszcz was charged this week with receiving stolen property over $1,200, conspiracy, and accessory after the fact. He has not yet entered a plea to these crimes, according to court documents.

He is due back in court on Monday.
