Police use drone to catch teen suspect who allegedly broke into dozens of cars

A number of items were stolen from the cars, including a laptop, car keys, house keys, and cash, according to police.

Police in Hingham arrested a Holbrook teen Friday after he and another suspect allegedly broke into about 60 cars in one night.

Just before 1 a.m., officers responded to a report of two males breaking into a resident’s cars on Pilgrim Road, police said in a statement. Working with Norwell police and a Hingham K-9 unit, officers investigated and launched a drone to help find the suspects.

Using the drone, police found the two males, who ran when spotted, on another street. Officers caught and arrested a 17-year-old male but were not able to find the other suspect, according to police.

The suspects allegedly broke into approximately 60 unlocked cars in the neighborhood, police said. Some cars were only rummaged through, but others had belongings taken from them, including a laptop, car fob keys, house keys, and cash, according to officials. Police reported that an electric scooter was also taken from a driveway.

The arrested suspect, whose name is not being released because he is a minor, was charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, disturbing the peace, and conspiracy, according to police.

The teen was released to his parents and will be arraigned at Hingham Juvenile Court at a later date.
