Brian Walshe was stabbed in jail Thursday while awaiting trial on allegations that he killed and dismembered his wife in 2023, according to multiple media reports.

Previously:

Walshe was stabbed at the Norfolk County Correctional Center in Dedham Thursday night, his attorney told WCVB. The circumstances surrounding the alleged incident were not immediately clear, and Walshe’s defense attorneys were not reachable for comment Friday morning.

The Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an individual at the jail was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening following an assault inside one of the facility’s housing units shortly before 10 p.m. The office did not identify the man in question but said he was conscious and alert when he was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

He was returned to the jail overnight, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

“The other individual involved was subdued by officers, and a makeshift blunt instrument was recovered,” the office added in a statement.

The incident remains under investigation.

Walshe, 50, is scheduled to go to trial next month for allegedly murdering his wife Ana, who was last seen alive early on New Year’s Day in 2023. Prosecutors allege he made a series of disturbing Google searches about dead bodies and purchased a hacksaw and various cleaning products soon after his wife disappeared.

Ana Walshe’s body has never been found.

Authorities have suggested Ana Walshe’s affair and multimillion-dollar life insurance constituted a possible motive for her murder, as did the couple’s purported marital struggles as Brian Walshe awaited sentencing on federal art fraud charges.

However, as Brian Walshe’s trial draws nearer, his lawyers have continued to question the integrity of the investigation and the substance of the evidence presented to grand jurors who indicted Walshe in 2023.

Walshe is due back in court Monday afternoon for a pretrial conference.
