Thieves in Quincy are ordering pizzas then stealing the driver’s car, police say

Two nearly identical thefts happened in recent weeks.

Two pizza delivery drivers recently had their cars stolen in Quincy “under nearly identical circumstances,” according to police.

On Aug. 31, a pizza delivery driver from Five Star Pizza was met by a man wearing dark clothing and a mask on the porch of the delivery location near Hancock and Berlin streets, police say.

The man reportedly told the delivery driver that he needed to get more money, and he then fled on foot.

The delivery driver turned around to realize that another masked person in dark clothing, who had been hiding in a bush, had stolen his delivery car, Quincy police told Boston.com.

The delivery driver’s phone was also in the car, but he flagged down a transit police officer and reported the theft.

A few days later, the stolen 2021 white Durango, which belonged to the delivery driver’s boss, was recovered in Brewer’s Corner, according to police.

On Sept. 7, around 11 p.m., a nearly identical theft occurred at 803 Southern Artery, police say.

“Again, two males placed a bogus order for pizza,” police said.

A delivery driver from Mama Bear’s Kitchen approached the home’s porch and then turned around to see two masked men in dark clothing jumping into his car, one in the front seat and one in the back, before driving off, according to police.

The stolen 2015 black Subaru was recovered on Sept. 9 at South Shore Plaza, Braintree police say. Another stolen car from an unrelated incident was also recovered, and two men were arrested, police said.

No further information about the arrests was released to Boston.com.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents should call the Quincy Police Department at 617-479-1212.
