The mother and wife from a New Hampshire family found dead Monday allegedly used a handgun to kill her husband and two children before dying by suicide, state officials announced Wednesday.

Investigators identified the four family members as Emily Long, 34, Ryan Long, 48, son Parker Long, 8, and daughter Ryan Long, 6. A third child, a toddler, was found alive and uninjured inside the home in Madbury, a small town about 15 miles from Portsmouth.

Autopsies of both children showed the boy and girl died from single gunshot wounds to the head, according to Attorney General John Formella. Ryan Long, who worked as a school psychologist, died from multiple gunshot wounds. Emily Long died from a single gunshot wound to the head, the AG said.

In the early morning on Aug. 18, Emily Long “took a handgun from the home” and killed two of her children and husband before immediately killing herself, investigators said.

Police found the family around 8:21 p.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call from the Moharimet Drive home, according to officials.

“While investigators are becoming aware of various concerns/issues ongoing in the household at the time of the event in question, people should avoid speculating that this event was caused by a single reason or stressor,” the AG’s statement said.

In recent videos posted to a now-private TikTok account, Emily Long spoke candidly about her husband’s treatment for the aggressive brain cancer glioblastoma, including his seizures, increased irritability, and struggle to find the right regimen of medications.

Emily Long also spoke about feeling depressed and concerned about the toll Ryan Long’s illness was taking on the couple’s children. In her final video, posted Saturday and captioned “Making a Change,” she discussed her efforts to change her habits and mindset amid her ongoing struggle with depression.

“I’m trying to get myself out of the rut,” she said, according to a clip of the video posted by the Sun. “Our kids are definitely struggling, and now I’m starting to notice some changes in our 3-year-old.”
