State Police arrested four juveniles — three in Dedham and one in nearby Boston — on Friday in connection to vehicle thefts.
The Troop H Community Action Team, known as the CAT Team, had received reports of several vehicles thefts, including a white Volkswagen Jetta stolen out of Boston, a Jeep Grand Cherokee stolen out of Milton, and a white Honda CR-V stolen out of Braintree, according to State Police.
Then just before 10 p.m. Friday, troopers located the Jeep and the Honda in an empty parking lot on a dead-end residential street in Dedham, confirmed they were stolen, and secured the scene.
A little later, a silver Honda Pilot drove down the street and then reversed onto the main road when the State Police cruiser and tow truck were in view, police said. The troopers believed the Pilot was returning to pick up the stolen vehicles and so they stopped it on the main road.
Before approaching the vehicle, CAT Team troopers noticed some of the five occupants moving “frantically” inside the vehicle, according to police.
A young male then fled from the rear passenger side door as troopers approached the vehicle, police said. Boston police later apprehended that suspect behind a business on River Street.
Three other individuals tried to flee from the vehicle but were unsuccessful and arrested, according to police.
The driver was an unwitting rideshare driver, police said.
The troopers allegedly found a firearm in plain sight in the back seat and found three additional firearms in a subsequent search. Some of the weapons contained large capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. One weapon’s serial number was defaced, and another weapon contained a switch device, which is an illegal attachment that makes a pistol fully automatic, similar to a machine gun, police said.
When troopers searched suspects on the scene, they allegedly discovered one suspect to be in possession of a 40 millimeter round of ammunition.
All four suspects, whose names were not released due to their juvenile status, were booked at the Milton Barracks.
In a search of the suspects’ information, police found warrants for armed robbery, home invasion, firearms offenses, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, vandalism of property, breaking and entering, and other charges.
All four suspects were charged with one count of possession of a loaded machine gun and defacing a firearm serial number, three counts of possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and four counts of possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card (FID) card, possession of a firearm without an FID card, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license, police said. One suspect was also charged with resisting arrest.
The suspects were being held without bail and transferred to the Department of Youth Services.
