A family is raising money to bring a woman’s body to the Dominican Republic after she was killed in a shooting in Hyde Park Wednesday.
Wendy Núñez Calderon was fatally shot on Faraday Street Wednesday morning. Another victim, a man, was injured in the shooting, Boston police said.
“She was loved by many and her loss has destroyed our hearts,” a family member wrote in Spanish in the description of a GoFundMe.
Donations will go toward bringing Núñez Calderon back to the Dominican Republic “so she can rest with her family,” the fundraiser says.
Hyde Park resident Jonathan Hernandez, 41, was arrested at the scene, police said.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to murder during an arraignment Thursday morning in West Roxbury District Court, court documents show. He was held without bail.
The shooting’s surviving victim identified Hernandez as the shooter to police, prosecutors said in court Thursday.
An attorney for Hernandez did not immediately return a request for comment Thursday night.
Prosecutors have not released a potential motive for the shooting, but City Councilor Enrique Pepé, whose district includes Hyde Park, told WCVB that the shooting was targeted.
“This was not a random act of violence. This was something that we could say is gang-related,” he said, according to the station.
