A Massachusetts woman was arrested Saturday after her infant and dog were found unattended in her car parked at a Rhode Island casino, according to the Tiverton Police Department.
Around 7 a.m. on Saturday, Tiverton police responded to a report of an unattended infant in a vehicle. Police and casino security guards found a white Toyota on the upper level of the parking garage with unlocked doors and an infant and small dog inside, according to a press release.
Police said they identified the vehicle’s owner, Elyse Busch of Onset, through a registration check.
Using casino surveillance footage, police located Busch playing a slot machine and noted that she entered the casino over 30 minutes prior to their arrival.
Police arrested and charged Busch with cruelty to or neglect of a child. Bail was set at $3,000 and her hearing is planned for Thursday at Newport District Court, according to the police.
The 15-month-old infant was taken by Tiverton Rescue to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for evaluation and was later released to a family member, authorities said.
An investigation remains ongoing.
