Boston Police arrested a Dorchester man on Tuesday in connection with a 2021 homicide.
Marc Lamothe, 46, was brought before a judge in Suffolk Superior Court for a status hearing Wednesday on charges of murder, carrying a firearm without a license, and a second offense of carrying a gun with a permit.
The court continued the hearing for an arraignment and competency hearing for July 8.
The judge committed Lamothe to Suffolk County jail without bail.
According to the Commonwealth’s statement on the case, on July 5, 2021, shortly after 3 a.m., the victim, Joshua Smith, 29, was fatally shot in the parking lot of 122 Seaver St., in Roxbury.
A member of the Boston Police Department was parked across the street and saw the shooter approach Smith and shoot him once in the head, and continued to shoot him in the torso, the statement said.
The officer gave a description of the shooter and directed police to where the shooter fled, according to the statement.
Police found Smith under a van that he attempted to use to flee from the parking lot. First responders declared him dead at the scene, the statement said. Police determined the cause of death as gunshot wounds.
Police identified Lamothe through video surveillance, witness statements and phone records.
The statement said Lamothe does not have a license to carry a firearm.
According to court documents, the court issued an arrest warrant on June 27. A Boston police press release says members of the Boston Police Fugitive Unit located and arrested Lamothe on Tuesday in the area of 555 Hyde Park Ave.
The court did not list an attorney for Lamothe.
