Authorities identified the victim in Wednesday’s early morning shooting in Dedham as a 20-year-old Brockton man.
Jaylani Cole was found suffering from gunshot wounds just after 3:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the BJ’s at 688 Providence Highway, the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office said in a statement. Dedham police responded to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls and found Cole and another 20-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Cole was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. The other man, whose name has not been released, underwent surgery and is expected to recover from his injuries, the DA’s office said.
Authorities said the business was closed at the time of the shooting. No arrests have been made.
“This is still an active and ongoing investigation,” Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said in a statement. “It is always a tragedy when a young life is taken. Our sympathies go out to Jaylani’s family and friends.”
