Suspect arrested in fatal Worcester shooting, police say

The suspect faces a murder charge and multiple assault and battery charges, according to Worcester police.

Worcester police arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting Saturday, the department announced.

Antonio Canales-Martinez, 26, is charged with armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, aggravated assault and battery with serious bodily injury, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, Worcester police said on Facebook.

At about 7:40 p.m., officers responded to Southgate Street for multiple calls of shots fired and found a male victim lying on the sidewalk. The victim was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, according to police.

Detectives are investigating the shooting, and the department’s crime scene unit has processed the firearm, police said.
