A Boston man pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to child sexual abuse charges, including making pornography of a child known to him, prosecutors announced.
Kyle Joyner, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of child pornography, U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Leah Foley said in a statement Thursday.
Between January and September of 2023, Joyner was accused of sexually exploiting “a minor victim known to him by producing child sexual abuse material,” Foley’s office said. Investigators also found more than 700 child sexual abuse material images, including of prepubescent girls, on two of his cell phones seized by investigators.
Joyner was first indicted by a federal grand jury on Mar. 6, 2024, and he initially pleaded not guilty in court that month. He was ordered to be held in custody, according to federal court records.
Joyner changed his plea Wednesday and was “remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal,” the records said.
Joyner will be sentenced in September. The charge of sexual exploitation of a child carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, and up to 30 years, in prison, a lifetime of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Joyner could serve 20 years in prison and pay $250,000 for the child pornography possession charge, according to prosecutors.
