Sheriff’s cadet charged in stabbing of man who rolled out of car on Cape Cod

The Hyannis woman is being held without bail at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility.

Authorities are holding a Barnstable County Sheriff’s cadet-in-training without bail after charging her with armed assault to murder, following an alleged stabbing incident on Cape Cod.

Tatiana Jacobs, 26, of Hyannis, was charged and arraigned for her involvement in the stabbing of a 33-year-old man in Harwich, according to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office and court records.

Jacobs is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing in Orleans District Court on Friday, May 23.

The Massachusetts State Police responded on Sunday, May 18, at around 8:14 p.m. to a report of a person who fell out of a vehicle in the eastbound lane of Route 6, according to the D.A.’s office.

When troopers arrived, they saw a man lying on his back with a large pool of “reddish-brown substance” around him. Troopers saw that the man was suffering from multiple injuries to his upper body.

First responders transported the man in critical condition by medflight to a Boston area hospital for treatment.

According to a statement of facts filed with the court, witnesses told police that they saw the man roll out of the vehicle onto the side of Route 6, and then saw the driver, Jacobs, come out and punch him in the head.

First responders later observed a puncture wound on the man’s neck. Police also reported finding a kitchen knife in the woods near the incident.

Earlier in the evening, police responded to a report of a man and woman fighting in a church parking lot in Barnstable, according to the D.A.’s office and court records.

Witnesses told police that the two left the scene in the same car before police arrived. An officer found a parked car with a smashed windshield and all four tires flattened. Police found that the vandalized vehicle belongs to the victim found in Harwich.

According to court documents, Jacobs denied knowing who the victim was and denied any involvement in his injuries in an interview with state troopers.

However, in an interview with the victim’s friend and roommate, he told troopers that Jacobs knew the man, who was married to someone else. The witness said he saw the two flirting at a March party but could not confirm if they were in a romantic relationship.

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, in a statement, says that Jacobs is a provisional employee who is a cadet in the Recruit Training Academy. The sheriff’s office placed Jacobs on unpaid administrative leave due to the criminal investigation.

The sheriff’s office had no further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
