A West Bridgewater man who pleaded guilty to child porn charges last year was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday. Juan Levano, 24, was found to have rented a room in the same building as a residential daycare before his arrest.
Levano was first taken into custody in 2023. Authorities identified him through his use of an online messaging app used for the trafficking of child porn, according to U.S. Attorney Leah Foley’s office.
American officials working in South Africa assisted local police in the arrest of a man there for the possession and distribution of child porn. He let authorities assume his identity on the platform, which led them to track down the IP address of another user, Levano, in West Bridgewater.
Levano told police that he rented a room on the property but did not work at the daycare or have contact with the children who attended it. The owner of the daycare corroborated Levano’s claims, according to Foley’s office.
Authorities found several different group conversations that Levano was a part of on the app, with titles that referenced child porn. The material found in the group chats included children “ranging from infancy to 13 years old.” When officials searched a photo app on Levano’s phone, they found more than 100 video and image files, most of which depicted child porn, according to Foley’s office.
Levano pleaded guilty to two federal charges connected to child porn last December.
