Man found fatally shot near Taunton high school, foul play suspected, DA says

There is no ongoing threat to the community or any known connection to Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School in Taunton, the DA's office said.

A 39-year-old man was found dead early Wednesday morning near a high school in Taunton, officials said.

Stephan Myers, of Falmouth, was found in a construction area behind Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, the Bristol County District Attorney announced Wednesday. He died from a single gunshot wound, the DA said.

Foul play is suspected, but there is no ongoing threat to the community or any known connection to the high school, the DA said.

“Please be assured that at no time was there a threat to the safety of our students or staff,” Superintendent-Director Alexandre Magalhaes wrote to families. “The school was never placed in lockdown or shelter-in-place status, and the educational day continued without disruption.”

Another body was found in Taunton last week. Samuel Stovall, 51, was found in the Mill River near Chandler Avenue “with obvious signs of decomposition,” the DA said. Stovall was known to police as homeless, and his death “is not deemed suspicious but remains open pending further investigation,” according to the DA.
