Police have charged a Lynn man with murder after an early Saturday morning shooting left one person dead on Watts Street in Chelsea.
According to the Chelsea Police Department, police arrested Carlos Utrera, 27, later that same day, and he will be arraigned in Chelsea District Court on Monday.
The investigation into the homicide remains active.
Chelsea Police say that shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to 40 Watts St. following a report of a shooting. Police found a 20-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite performing life-saving measures, the Chelsea Police said, the man died at the scene.
The arrest of Utrera followed an investigation by Chelsea Police and the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit.
“We are committed to ensuring that those responsible for violent acts in our community are held accountable,” said Chelsea Police Chief Keith Houghton in a statement. “I want to thank our detectives and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for their immediate and tireless work on this case.”
