Prosecutors have identified one of two victims found dead in a wooded area near a Salem Walmart on April 23.
Andrew Ross Guempel, 41, with a last known address of Arizona, was one of the two men found, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. The second victim’s name will be released once his family is notified, the DA’s office said.
Jay Blodget, 30, is charged with two counts of murder in connection with the two men’s deaths, the DA’s office said April 24. Blodget was held without bail after his arraignment and is due back in court May 28.
A man found the victims’ bodies April 23 while walking his dog in a wooded area next to the Walmart on 450 Highland Ave. in Salem, according to the DA’s office. Salem police and State Police conducted an investigation which allegedly led to Blodget.
Blodget, who is homeless, was previously arrested April 18 for breaking into a storage container in the same woods where the bodies were found, according to an incident report. He was released later that day, court records showed.
