A Salem man is facing murder charges after two bodies were found Wednesday in a wooded area near a Walmart, prosecutors said.
Jay Blodget, 30, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said that a man was walking his dog Wednesday afternoon when he found what appeared to be a human body in a wooded area next to the Walmart on 450 Highland Ave. in Salem. Police responded and found two male bodies, the DA’s office said in a statement.
Salem police and State Police conducted an investigation which led to Blodget, prosecutors said in the statement.
Blodget was arraigned Thursday in Salem District Court, and the court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, Boston 25 News reported.
Blodget was held without bail and is due back in court for a probable cause hearing May 28, the DA’s office said.
Blodget was also arrested April 18 on charges of breaking into a depository and possessing a tool used to break in, court records show. An incident report from those charges indicated that Blodget is homeless and was breaking into a storage container in the same woods where the bodies were found. Blodget was released later that day, court records showed.
The identities of the deceased men have not been released. Michael Phelan, Blodget’s attorney, did not immediately return a request for comment Thursday afternoon.
