A Quincy man was found guilty of first-degree murder Monday for the fatal shooting of a Dorchester man in 2019, prosecutors said.
Lalance Smith, 35, of Quincy, was also found guilty of armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm used in a felony, possession of a loaded firearm, and possession of ammunition, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Kiniya Lee, 40, a co-defendant in the case, pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery Feb. 11 and was sentenced to four to six years in state prison, the DA’s office said in a statement.
At about 3 a.m. on June 14, 2019, Lee called Arnold Woodrum, 59, of Dorchester, and told him she was coming over to his apartment at 107 Devon St, according to the statement. A witness let in Lee and Smith, who Woodrum didn’t know, and went back into Woodrum’s room.
Lee and Smith went into another room across the hall for a few minutes before Lee entered Woodrum’s room and apologized to him several times. Smith then entered the room, pointed a revolver at Woodrum, and ordered him to “give me the bag, give me the money, give me everything,” according to the statement.
Woodrum handed Smith a bag, but a struggle ensued, and he was shot in his chest and back, the statement said. Woodrum then ran down the hall into the bathroom, where he collapsed.
Smith will be sentenced Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court, the DA’s office said.
His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“I thank the jurors for their work, and I’m grateful for the efforts by prosecutors, investigators and victim-witness advocates to secure a measure of justice for the family and friends of Arnold Woodrum,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
