Cape man arrested after hit-and-run that injured 2 women outside restaurant

One of the women was seriously injured.

Police arrested a Yarmouthport man early Sunday morning after he allegedly hit two women outside a Hyannis restaurant, seriously injuring one, before fleeing the scene.

According to the Barnstable Police Department, police officers responded at 1:15 a.m. to the Tiki Port restaurant parking area on Route 132 for a hit-and-run pedestrian incident involving a white pickup truck that had fled.

Upon arrival, Barnstable officers and Hyannis Fire and Rescue personnel began treating two injured women.

Due to the severity of one woman’s injuries, first responders transported her to Cape Cod Gateway Airport by ambulance, where a medical helicopter then flew her to a Rhode Island Level 1 trauma center.

Barnstable police say that shortly after, a patrol officer spotted the white pickup and conducted a motor vehicle stop.

The driver, Maxwell Dean, 21, is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license, and several other motor vehicle violations.

Dean was being held at the Barnstable Police Department on $20,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Monday.
