Police investigating after 2 shot in Boston suburb

A preliminary investigation found that the attack was most likely targeted and not random, police said. 

Police are investigating a double shooting in Wakefield on Tuesday night, they said. 

The incident occurred just after 7 p.m. on Lakeshore Drive off of Main Street, according to statements from the Wakefield Police Department.

Police had a heavy presence around Cumberland Farms on Lowell Street and have since secured the area, they said.

When reached for comment Wednesday afternoon, Wakefield police did not provide any new information or updates on the status of the victims.

At 10:29 p.m., police reported that K-9 units were actively searching surrounding neighborhoods for evidence.

Authorities said they are looking for an unknown number of suspects.
